Oostduinkerke, 30/01/2010

I was stupid today.  After checking the weather, i decided to head for Oostduinkerke.  Arriving there around 13h30, a few pilots were soaring the dune so i immediately hopped into the air too, but unfortunately without much success: the wind dropped and was too north.  After some playing around, things started to change, we got a perfect north-westerly wind, but sometimes quite strong... I decided to continue playing in front of the dune... way in front of the dune... oh yes, I was definately waaay in front of the dune...

Les 7 Meuses, 26/12/2009

Jean-Yves was the first to announce that he wanted to fly at Les 7 Meuses today... and since i haven't been airborne for a couple of weeks now, i was of course also overly optimistic about flying today, even with strong wind forecasts...

Oostduinkerke, 09/08/2009

It looked like it was going to be a nice day... with a nice north to north-easterly wind... so not quite good for soaring at the Belgian coast... but still... my motto is always: "Those who don't try, don't fly!" so after watching the "Aliens" movie in the morning, i convinced my girlfriend to drive us to Oostduinkerke for some beach fun... with or without glider.  My backup plans were kiting, geocaching and hanging out at the beach.  And yes... the wind indeed was too northerly with eaven some norht-east in it...

Rochehaut is always a fun place to fly: lots of supporters standing right behind you at take-off.  Lots of curious faces looking at the pilots and their gliders, asking lots of newbie-paragliding questions and being amazed about lots of things that are trivial to every paragliding pilot.  If you don't feel comfortable with lots of people watching you at take-off, then don't come flying in Rochehaut!

Day 6 - Task 6 - 72.4km Race to Goal

Its been a strange year for weather but, finally, we have a 6/6 event - 6 tasks in 6 days!
 
We have been amazingly lucky with the weather this week - we found out last night that it has been raining here in Buzet for the 30 days leading up to Friday and then the weather turned and we have had sunshine all week. You don't get luck like that too often so we are making the most of it.
 

Buzet, Croatia - Day 6 - Morning [10:15]

Last night saw a party and dinner up at the take-off. There was food for all and free beer (and a fair helping of very local truffle brandy). Everything was lit by candles and it was a great way for the whole group to relax.
This morning is back to reality though - the sky is blue and its hot today so the busses are loading up to go to take-off and we are waiting for news of a task.

Results task 3 - preparing task 4

It was always promising to be a tricky task. In the end we had 15 pilots reported in goal but, after the scoring was complete, only 8 of these pilots were confirmed to have made all the turnpoints and then the goal field.
 
The race was won in a time of 2 hours 41 minutes 8 seconds by Gasper Prevc (Slovenia / slo-paragliding.com).
 
First woman today was Marina Olexina (Russia / TEXHOPOC) with an overall distance of 49.26km.
 

Task 3 PWCA Buzet, Croatia

For a while it looked like the day might get too windy but a bit of patience appears to have paid off and now we have a task. It is a 63.6km Race To Goal which makes a cats cradle around Buzet. Its not such a long task but its fairly complicated. The map is below.
 

U-Turn duo in hardness-test:Sprüngli and Takats start at X-Alps

The X-alps race is considered to be the hardest challenge in the paragliding world. Now this classic starts again – and with Vincent Sprüngli and Pal Takats two pilots rely on U-Turn gliders as their airline.
 
The event starts on July 19th in Salzburg. Flying or by foot, other options are excluded, the pilots have to get over the 818 km to Monaco. Sole requirement: They have to pass turnpoints. And these turnpoints are really demanding. Starting in Salzburg, the route leads to the Watzmann, Großglockner, Marmolada, Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and Mont Gros to Monaco.

Paul Underwood notches up the next SIGMA 7 victory

Australian Pilot Paul Underwood wins the Sport Class of the Rat Race in Woodrat Mountain, Oregon USA.
 
It was an incredible competition with 6 consecutive days of racing and some epic conditions for Woodrat Mountain. The 7th day was cancelled after many pilots were shot off the launch pad to over 13,000 feet where they encountered strong winds. Many people broke and then re-broke the site altitude record.

First time flying with new paraglider (UP SummitXC) and new harness (Kortel KamasutraII) in 2 new sites for me close to the coast in Northern France.

Swiss Championship: task victory and podium place for Swing team pilots

Our Swing team pilots keep on getting better. Torsten Siegel was on the winners’ podium as third place-getter in the Swiss Championships, and Peter Neuenschwander notched up a win in the final task. Both pilots were flying new WRC prototypes, so that the performance of the wings could be tested against tough competition. And this went very well for the two pilots!

The U Sport is now fully LTF 2-3 and EN-D certified in all sizes.

The bad weather in the alps delayed the certification progress a little bit, but now the U Sport has all Certifications in all sizes. For further information about the certification visit the Certification Center European Para Academy.
