Although my personal best in Belgium is only 18km, today looked like a nice day to give it our best shot for the Challenge Big Danny! Trogie and I headed for the Ardennes, and after about 2,5 hours driving from Kortrijk we arrived as the first ones at take-off in Rochehaut. I decided to explore the sky and did a first 'plouf' of about 3 minutes... the sky was ok ;-) Once I got back up, Mikael, Annekepous and Paul had arrived. Paul, currently ranked pilot number 109 in the world, told us the conditions looked good and we were going to have a flyable afternoon. Having heard this, and watching the birds, i decided to play winddummy for Paul and went for my second flight, which was already better than the first one: 7 whole minutes! But then, again arriving back at take-off... i saw Paul and Mikael taking off and managing to climb high. I didn't hesitate and went for my third flight. This was definitely my best one of the day: I managed to climb 221m above take-off and flew a real small FAI-triangle! :-) I saw Paul leaving for XC but i found myself still too low to try to make a first transition... there are some forests behind take-off and i definitely wanted to be high enough to be able to pass them... unfortunately, i wasn't able to make it any higher and after 20 minutes of flight i had to land again. Bye bye Paul :-) My fourth flight looked promising as Mikael was already quite a while up high in the air when i joined him... but unfortunately, he noticed me of a knot in my lines and after desperate failed attempts to get the knot out, i decided to go for the landing zone. At that moment, most pilotes decided to quit for the day... but i still believed in a nice evening soaring flight and went back up. I'm happy i did that, because my last flight was a nice tree-skratching-not-wanting-to-give-up soaring flight of about 17 minutes. A nice thing to end the day with! Around 18h00, Trogie and i headed back for Kortrijk... and 2.5 hours later we found ourselves back home, tired... but happy again of having had a nice flying day!
