For the second year running, the X-Scotia event, which is an adventurerun/hike & paragliding competition, took place in Scotland. Starting atLochearnhead, the competitors had to round three turnpoints on themountain summits of Meall nan Tarmachan (1043m), Ben More (1174m)and Ben Vorlich (985m) before racing back to the finish line atLochearnhead.
NOVA Team Pilot Steve Nash successfully defended the X-Scotia title that hewon last year, this time with the slightly larger NOVA IBEX 17. After a close runrace, he won the event in a time of 13 hours 41 minutes. Steve!s fly to run ratiowas greater than in 2008, flying 21 km and running 65 km. Despite beingovertaken in the air by second-place man Paul Myerscough part way round(whilst Steve was running on the ground!), the IBEX!s ability to launch and fly inslightly stronger winds than a "normal! sized glider allowed him to regain thelead and eventually take the win. Steve wins a one-week holiday at Les BasseBeaumettes in the South of France.
