Arne Kristian Boiesen and Daniel Bjørkås push the limits to a new dimension in Norway, and Thomas Koster makes two flights of over 250 km.
On July 3rd the Norwegian (and Scandinavian) XC record was well and truly shattered. Arne Kristian Boiesen (OMEGA 7) and Daniel Bjørkås (Boomerang 5) flew from Trysil near the Swedish border respectively 210 km as far as Skjåk (Arne), and 235.6 km to Bjorli (Daniel) in about 7 hours. This new paraglider record exceeds the current delta figure by 30 km, and is 80 km farther than the Frode Halse’s previous record (OMEGA 7).
On both the 21st and 29th of June Thomas Koster was in the air at Fiesch with his OMEGA. On June 21st he had to land after 252 km shortly before reaching Innsbruck because cloud cover over the Inn valley made further distance impossible. On the 29th of June he then succeeded in making a flight of over 276 km as far as the Brenner pass. When he adds the high scores from these Tirolean trips to the results from both his Fanas 170 km triangles Thomas’ total for the year comes within a few points of Chrigel Maurer’s. This means that both these ADVANCE team pilots lie currently in 3rd and 4th places in the Swiss CCC. One could be forgiven for getting excited about the next spell of good weather.
We congratulate the pilots on these great flights and wish them all a lot of fun in the air, even if their flights don’t last 7 hours!
